What the People Connector does

In today’s interconnected world, no single person or organization can contend with the complexities of health and development issues alone. Networking, partnerships, collaboration and representation are essential to achieving shared goals. This brings small groups of people together in a multitude of working groups, technical panels, peer networks and representative delegations.

But all of them face the same set of basic communication challenges: they need to:

     connect people all around the world;

     talk to one another and exchange ideas efficiently;

     share essential documents, information or  announcements;

     know when critical steps or strategic moments are taking place;

    build an institutional memory for new future members.

The Internet age promised to deliver the solution, but a series of increasingly complex tools emerged, and many group members have spent hours on frustrating conference calls, got lost in Sharepoint mazes and been overwhelmed with huge e-mail attachments.

While other tools got more complex, the People Connector got simpler. It addresses many of the main group communication needs without added frills. It allows a group of people to organize themselves into an ordered community, offers a clear means of exchanging messages and files within the group, and enables users to keep track of imminent milestones or deadlines. Creating new communities and inviting new participants takes minutes, and sub-groups can easily be opened to handle specific tasks or areas of responsibility. Individual users can easily set their own preferences for receiving files, and access/add to the web-based information library directly. Simple access to an e-mail account is all any user needs to benefit from the set of People Connector tools.

Individual communities nominate ‘Community Leaders’ to oversee invitations, manage moderation needs and help organize the file library. The system keeps a copy of every community exchange, including shared files, systematically creating an institutional memory of the group’s work and discussions.
